Celebrating 50 years of flowers, friendship and fun!
Welcome to the newly launched website of the Scarborough Garden Club!
As president, I am thrilled to share this space with fellow gardening enthusiasts who are passionate about nurturing our beautiful landscapes and connecting with nature.
Our club is dedicated to promoting gardening in all its forms, protecting and encouraging the growth of native trees, flowers, and birds, and fostering a strong sense of community among our members. On our website, you'll learn about our club. You will find a variety of resources, including gardening tips, event information, and opportunities to connect with fellow gardeners.
I believe that gardening is more than just a hobby; it’s a way to nurture our souls, our environment, and each other. Whether you’re a lifelong gardener or just beginning to dig into the world of plants, our club is here to support and inspire you. Our mission is to promote the joy of gardening and foster a sense of community among our members. Flowers, Friendship, and Fun is our motto.
Thank you for being a part of our gardening community. I look forward to seeing you at our events and sharing our passion for all things green!

Hunnewell House
The Hunnewell House is one of the oldest surviving structures in the state of Maine. Located on Old County Road near Black Point Road in Scarborough, this modest single-story building was probably built in 1702-1703 by Richard Hunnewell, who had first settled Scarborough in 1684.
The house was given to the town and moved to its present location in 1973, where it has since undergone restorative work. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
Our club is fortunate to be the guardians and keepers of the gardens at the Hunnewell House. Volunteers from our club meet at the house on the 2nd or 3rd Monday of the spring and summer months to maintain the gardens. An herb garden has been established with a bee skep in keeping with what we believe is similar to a garden of the 18th century.
Garden of Hope
The Garden of Hope was established in 2003 for the benefit of all who visit the Maine Medical Center in Scarborough. Over the past several years, our club has re-invigorated the gardens and developed an all-white scene, meaning the plants at the garden bloom only in white. We add beautiful white annuals to our established perennials, making a lovely, relaxing, meditative view.
Annual Plant Sale
The annual plant sale is the primary fundraiser for the club. All members of the club are strongly encouraged to assist in whatever way possible in the preparation for the sale and on the day of the sale.
We accept donations of potted and labeled perennial and annual plants for our annual plant sale. Volunteers are needed in May and June to help dig, identify, and pot plants donated by our Scarborough neighbors from their gardens.

Conservation Pledge
“I pledge to protect and conserve the natural resources of the Planet Earth and promise to promote education so we may become caretakers of our air, water, forest, land and wildlife.”
Adopted at National Council’s May 1994 convention and by the Maine Federation at its June 1994 convention in Portland, Maine.
